Overview

Sight Word Phrases ("the App") is committed to protecting your privacy. This privacy policy explains how the App handles data.

Data Collection and Storage

We do not collect, transmit, or share any data with third parties.

The App:

• Does NOT transmit any data off your device
• Does NOT require online accounts or registration
• Does NOT send analytics or usage data to any server
• Does NOT contain advertising or third-party trackers
• Does NOT connect to the internet

Local Data

The App stores the following data locally on your device only to provide its features:

• User profiles: A name (chosen by the user) to identify readers and track their progress separately
• Reading session history: Which word list level was practiced and when
• Phrase attempt results: Performance data for each phrase (words missed, time taken, completion status)

This data never leaves your device. It is stored in the app's private database and is completely removed when you uninstall the app.

Permissions

Microphone Permission

The App requests microphone permission to enable speech recognition for reading practice.

How we use it:

• Audio is processed locally on your device using offline speech recognition
• No audio is recorded, stored, or transmitted
• Speech recognition happens entirely offline
• Audio processing stops when you exit the app

Storage Permission

The App extracts a bundled speech recognition model (~40MB) to your device's storage for offline use.

How we use it:

• The model is included with the app and extracted from app assets on first launch — no download is required
• Model file is stored in the app's private directory
• Model is removed when you uninstall the app

Children's Privacy

The App is designed for children and complies with COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act).

• No data is collected from children or transmitted off the device
• No online account creation required
• User profiles are stored locally only and contain only a chosen display name
• Safe for use by children under 13

Third-Party Services

The App uses the following open-source libraries:

• Vosk Speech Recognition: Offline speech recognition engine (processes audio locally, bundled with the app)
• Android Jetpack / Room: Local on-device database for storing reading progress

These libraries operate entirely on your device and do not collect or transmit data.

Data Security

All data is stored locally in the app's private storage, accessible only to the App. No data is transmitted over the internet, so there is no risk of interception or remote breach.

Changes to Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be posted in this document with a new "Last Updated" date.
